Comedy, thrills and special effects. The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) turned the spotlight on military Families with its latest production, a video contest starring, directed, written and even produced by aspiring military film moguls across the globe.
“It’s My Benefit” winner SPC Jonathan Pruett of Kaiserslautern, Germany, whose video highlights many of the programs and amenities that the exchange benefit provides the military community, took home the competition’s first place prize, his choice of a Mac Pro computer or a $2,000 AAFES online shopping spree.
All totaled, twenty-one videos were submitted to the contest with internet voting determining the top ten finalists. The three winning videos were selected by 11 judges consisting of both military and civilian personnel. Judging was based on overall originality, accuracy of information and how the exchange benefit was presented.
“The creativity and professionalism of the videos was amazing,” said AAFES Commander Brig. Gen. Keith Thurgood. “SPC Pruett’s video, for example, really stood out due to its creativity. He also did a great job of connecting the AAFES value story with troops and their Families. Military shoppers like SPC Pruett are our best advocates and their opinion of AAFES is ten times more valuable than mine or even other associates.”
Finishing second and receiving a $1,000 online shopping spree was John Carkeet of Satellite Beach, Fla. A $500 online shopping spree was awarded to third place winner SSgt Charles Hoyt of Spangdahlem, Germany with the remaining seven finalists each receiving $100 AAFES gift certificates and the other 11 entries taking home $50 gift certificates.
