Future Combat Systems: Taking the Current Force into the Future
06/18/2005

(Background Brief 103W, June 2005)
Examines the Army's primary initiative to reduce or eliminate capability gaps in the Future Force. FCS, the centerpiece of DOTMLPF (doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leader development, personnel and facilities) solutions for the Future Force, is tied directly to achieving concepts and capabilities to meet the needs of the future Joint Force.

This Background Brief looks at the anticipated structure of FCS-equipped Units of Action, the Spiral Acquisition Strategy for making FCS technologies available for the Current Force, and the analytical underpinnings of FCS development. It also includes an operational and equipment overview, information about program oversight and a brief look at the restructuring of the FCS contract as recently announced by the Secretary of the Army.
